다보성갤러리, 10월 17~24일 제9외 중국문화유산 온라인 경매....41점 출품

배 모형의 도자기 ‘녹유선(綠釉船)’이 이채롭게 다가온다. 녹유(綠釉)는 도기의 표면에 납유를 발라 불에 구워낸 유약을 말한다. 선상에 지어진 기와집 지붕에는 새 한 마리가 콧노래를 부른다. 아마 하늘과 지상을 연결하는 메신저 역할이 아닌가 싶다. 창문틀 사이로 밖을 내다보는 사람들이 웅성거린다. 선두의 선장과 선미에 있는  돛을 차지게 형상화했다.  중국 한나라 시대 왕실 문화와 우수한 선박 제조 기술, 항해 문화를 엿볼 수 있는 진귀한 문화유산이다.

녹유선을 비롯해 원나라 도자기 ‘유리홍 봉황문 유개병’, 당나라 ‘채도무녀용’, 원나라 말경에 제작된 ‘청화 운룡문 완’, 청나라 시대 ‘묘금 요지성모 사각먹’, 호박사자, 장수 복숭아, 박쥐 비연호(코담배) 등 희귀한 중국 도자기들이 경매시장에 대거 쏟아져 나온다.

다보성갤러리가 이달 17일부터 24일까지 진행하는 ‘제9회 중국 문화유산 온라인 경매’를 통해서다. 소장가치가 있는 도자기는 물론, 먹(墨), 호박(琥珀), 비연호(鼻煙壺) 등 다양한 분야의 중국 문화유산을 망라했다. 출품작은 모두 41점으로 낮은 추정가 총액만도 수십억원에 달한다.

중국 문화유산 컬렉션에 관심이 있는 애호가들은 물론 도자기 매니아들이 재테크 수탄으로 배팅할 수 있다는 점에서 주목된다. 더구나 한국은행이 지난 11일 기준금리를 내리며 통화정책 전환(피벗)에 나섬에 따라 아트테크 새로운 전략의 필요성이 제기된다.

김종춘 다보성갤러리 회장은“국제 미술시장에서 중국의 희귀한 작품들의 소장 가치가 점차 높아지고 있어 마켓도 꾸준히 성장하고 있다”며 “중국 경제가 점차 활기를 띨 것으로 예상되고, 골동품 애호가 역시 늘고 있는 상황이어서 문화유산 투자는 매력적일 수 있다”고 분석했다.

다보성갤러리는 이번 경매에 원나라 ‘유리홍 봉황문 유개병(釉里红凤凰纹有盖瓶)을 전략상품으로 전면에 내세웠다. 투껑이 있는 병 모형의 도자기 복부에 날개를 활짝 편 봉황이 그려진게 진기롭다. 봉황 주변에 전지(纏枝)연꽃문이 눈에 띈다. 전지는 꽃가지가 끊이지 않고 연결된 모습을 뜻한다. 중국 고미술분야에 정통한 한 전문가는 “이 도자는 끊임없이 성장하고 만대(萬代)가 이어진다는 상서로운 의미를 담고 있다”고 설명했다.

북송시대 제작된 것으로 추정되는 ’정요 신관 각화 모란문 사계병‘도 새 주인을 찾는다.  도자기 가운데 모란 무늬가 양각으로 새겨졌고, 목과 어깨 사이에는 끈 모양의 귀가 네 개 달려 있는게 흥미롭다. 굽 바닥에는 북송 시기 도자 중 황실과 연관된 도자기에 사용된 '신관(新官)'이란  관지가 새겨져 있다. 경매 입찰은 5000만원부터 시작한다.

명나라 백자 '대명만력년 을묘개원사 오채 군선축수문 개관(大明万历年乙卯开元寺 五彩群仙祝寿纹盖罐)’도 나온다. 구연부와 굽이 넓고 어깨가 부푼 게 특징이다. 개관 몸체에는 오채로 수성(壽星)신과 소나무, 동자 등 군선축수문이 현란하게 책색되어 있다. 수성신은 도교의 복록수삼성(福祿壽三星) 중 하나로 장수를 상징한다. 굽바닥에는 '대명만력년(大明萬曆乙卯年)'과 '개원사(開元寺)'라는 명문이 보인다. 특히 개원사는 738년 당나라 현종이 불교 포교를 위 해 창건한 절로 복건성에서 가장 큰 불교 사찰이다.

무덤에서 출토된 당나라 시대 도용 ‘채도무녀용 (彩陶舞女俑)’도 눈길을 끈다. 높이 39.5cm의 이 도용은 두 손에 빨간 천을 쥐고 고개를 갸우뚱한 채 서 있는 무녀를 형상화했다. 머리에는 꽃이 그려져 있고, 이마 중앙에는 붉은색 미점(眉點)이 있다. 흰색 꽃무늬가 그려진 주황색 옷을 입고 있는 무녀라는 점에서 중국의 음악과 춤을 연구하는데 사료적 가치가 있다는 게 다보성 측의 설명이다.

이밖에 운룡문이 장식된 그릇‘청화 운룡문 완(元末明初 青花云龙纹碗)’은 1300만원부터 경매를 시작하고. 원나라 청백자 ‘철반계수주자(铁斑鸡首执壶)’, 청나라 ‘청화유리홍 인물문 병(清康熙 青花釉里红人物纹瓶)’,‘대아재영경장춘 분채 연지어문 천구병’, 용이 그려진 작은 항아리‘묘금 용문 쌍이소호(描金龙纹双耳小壶)’, 연꽃을 들고 서 있는 나한 두 명이 새겨진 사각 먹‘묘금 요지성모 사각먹 (描金瑶池圣母墨), 사자 모양의 호박 조각상, 백자 비연호 등도 비교적 저렴한 가격에 온라인 입찰대에 오른다.

출품작들은 경매기간 동안 다보성갤러리 4층에서 무료로 만나 볼 수 있다. 다보성갤러리는 반세기 동안 국내외 문화유산을 수집해 국제시장에 유통해온 국내 최대 고미술화랑이다. 특히 국공립박물관 및 국내 유수의 사립박물관에 보급하며 보존과 향유에 일익을 담당해 왔다.

김종춘 다보성갤러리 회장은 “올해 말에 20~30점의 진귀한 중국 유물들을 엄선해서 오프라인 경매도 진행할 예정”이라며“문화 애호가는 물론 일반 대중에게 중국 문화를 이해하는 자리가 될 것으로 기대된다”고 말했다.

Daboseong Gallery's 9th Online Auction of Chinese Cultural Heritage, October 17-24, Featuring 41 Items
 

A standout item in the auction is a green-glazed earthenware model of a boat, referred to as A Green-Glazed Boat. The term "green glaze" describes a glaze applied to pottery that, when fired, produces a lustrous finish. Perched on the boat's roof is a bird, seemingly in song, possibly symbolizing a messenger between heaven and earth. Through the window frames, figures can be seen bustling inside. The model also depicts the ship's captain at the bow and a well-formed sail at the stern, reflecting the advanced shipbuilding and navigation culture of China's Han Dynasty.
 

In addition to the green-glazed boat, other rare Chinese artifacts will be available for auction, including a Yuan Dynasty Copper-Red 'Phoenix' Jar with Cover, a Tang Dynasty Painted Pottery Figure of a Female Dancer, a Blue and White ‘Cloud and Dragon’ Bowl from the late Yuan Dynasty, a Qing Dynasty Gilt-Decorated Ink Stick Depicting the Holy Mother of Yaochi, an Amber Figure of a Lion, and a White Porcelain ‘Longevity Peach and Bat’ Snuff Bottle.


These items will be showcased at Daboseong Gallery’s 9th Online Auction of Chinese Cultural Heritage, held from October 17 to 24. The auction covers a wide range of Chinese cultural heritage, from valuable ceramics to ink sticks, amber figures, and snuff bottles. A total of 41 items will be on display, with the lower estimated total value reaching tens of billions of Korean won.


This auction is attracting attention from art collectors and pottery enthusiasts alike, offering a unique opportunity to invest in these artifacts as a form of wealth management. Moreover, with the Bank of Korea's recent interest rate cut on the 11th and a shift in monetary policy, new strategies for art investment are gaining prominence.


Kim Jong-chun, the president of Daboseong Gallery, commented, “The value of rare Chinese artworks is steadily increasing in the international art market, and this sector continues to grow. With China's economy expected to regain momentum and more people becoming antique enthusiasts, investing in cultural heritage could prove highly attractive.”
 

The gallery has positioned the Copper-Red 'Phoenix' Jar with Cover as a strategic centerpiece of this auction. The jar, featuring a majestic phoenix with wings spread wide, is surrounded by a continuous lotus vine design (纏枝), symbolizing unbroken growth and prosperity. An expert in Chinese antiquities explained that this piece conveys auspicious meanings of eternal growth and continuity.


Another notable item is the White 'Flower' Vase with Four Ears (Ding Ware) from the Northern Song Dynasty, featuring a peony design in relief and four strap-shaped handles between the neck and shoulders. The base bears the inscription "Shin-Guan," indicating its connection to the royal ceramics of the period. The auction for this piece will start at 50 million won.


Also featured is a Famille-Verte Kaiyuan Temple Jar with Taoist Immortal Designs from the Ming Dynasty. The jar is distinguished by its wide mouth and base, and its bulbous body is adorned with intricate designs of longevity deities, pine trees, and young attendants. The base bears inscriptions indicating the Ming Dynasty's Wanli period and the Kaiyuan Temple, the largest Buddhist temple in Fujian Province, founded during the Tang Dynasty in 738 by Emperor Xuanzong.
 

Finally, a Painted Pottery Figure of a Female Dancer from the Tang Dynasty, unearthed from a tomb, will undoubtedly capture the attention of attendees. Standing 39.5 cm tall, the figure holds red cloth in both hands and tilts her head slightly. She wears an orange dress with white floral patterns and a red dot on her forehead, symbolizing beauty. This piece holds significant historical value for research into ancient Chinese music and dance.


In addition, the Blue and White ‘Cloud and Dragon’ Bowl, adorned with cloud and dragon motifs, will start at a bidding price of 13 million won. Other notable pieces include a Yuan Dynasty Qingbai 'Chicken' Ewer with Iron Brown Spots, a Qing Dynasty Blue and Red ‘Figural’ Vase, a Dayazhai ‘Fish and Lotus Pond’ Tianqiuping Vase with ‘Yongqing Changchun’ Inscription, a small jar with dragon designs titled Gilt-Decorated ‘Dragon’ Pot with Two Handles, and a Gilt-Decorated Ink Stick Depicting the Holy Mother of Yaochi. The auction also features an Amber Lion Figure and a White Porcelain Snuff Bottle, all offered at relatively affordable prices through online bidding.


The items will be on public display for free on the 4th floor of Daboseong Gallery throughout the auction period. Daboseong Gallery, Korea’s largest gallery specializing in antiquities, has spent over half a century collecting and distributing cultural heritage items both domestically and internationally. The gallery has played a significant role in preserving and promoting cultural heritage by supplying pieces to national museums and major private institutions in Korea.

Kim Jong-chun, the president of Daboseong Gallery, announced, “Toward the end of the year, we are planning to hold an offline auction featuring 20 to 30 rare Chinese artifacts. It will be an opportunity for both cultural enthusiasts and the general public to deepen their understanding of Chinese culture.”
