중국 전설 속 상서로운 동물인 이문(螭吻)이 장식된 뚜껑을 갖춘 여요(汝窯) 청자 향로입니다.
이문은 용의 아홉 자식 중 하나로, 용의 머리와 물고기 몸을 가진 신비로운 존재로 알려져 있습니다. 보통 크고 위로 치켜 올라간 꼬리를 가진 형태로 표현되며, 먼 곳을 바라보는 능력과 불을 좋아하는 특성으로 유명합니다. 이러한 특성 때문에 지붕에 이문을 올려두면 불을 막아 준다는 믿음이 생겨, 중국 고대 건축에서 궁전 지붕을 장식하는 중요한 요소로 사용되었습니다. 이문은 왕권의 위엄과 존귀함을 상징하며, 집안의 평안을 수호하고 재앙을 막아주는 존재로 여겨졌습니다.
뚜껑에는 여요의 전형적인 청색 유약이 발라져 있으며, 표면에는 은은한 광택이 돕니다. 내부와 외부 모두 자잘한 갈색 개편(開片, 균열 무늬)이 촘촘히 형성되어 있습니다. 이문의 눈동자는 검은색 유약으로 또렷하게 표현되었으며, 날카로운 이빨, 두터운 턱, 힘찬 손과 발톱, 그리고 정교하게 조각된 꼬리와 지느러미가 어우러져 이문을 더욱 생동감 있게 묘사하고 있습니다.
향로 몸체의 측면에는 여의(如意) 모양의 구멍이 세 군데 뚫려 있으며, 굽 아래에는 서수(瑞獸, 길상 짐승)의 얼굴과 발톱 모양을 본뜬 세 개의 다리가 장식되어 있습니다.
뚜껑 바닥과 향로 바닥에는 지정지마흔(支钉芝麻痕)이라 불리는 작은 규석 받침 자국 다섯 개가 남아 있어, 여요 청자의 전형적인 제작 기법을 보여줍니다.
这是一件带有螭吻装饰盖子的汝窑青瓷香炉。
螭吻是龙的九子之一，龙头鱼身。尾巴硕大且向上翘起，喜欢在险要处东张西望，也喜欢吞火。在建筑中塑其形象在屋顶之上用来辟火，因此常见于中国古代皇家宫殿建筑之中。该装饰不仅象征皇权的威严和尊贵，也被认为能守护家宅平安，抵御灾祸。
盖上通体施汝窑典型的青色釉面，表面泛着柔和的光泽。器物的内外部均布满细密的棕色开片。螭吻的眼睛以黑色釉料勾勒分明，锋利的牙齿、厚实的下颚、有力的四肢及利爪，以及精雕细琢的尾鳍与鳞片，使其形象更加生动。
香炉腹下开有三处如意形镂孔，炉底下承三兽形足，足上刻兽首和爪子。
盖底和炉底均留有五个支钉痕，展现出汝窑青瓷的典型制作工艺。
This Ru Ware celadon incense burner is fitted with a cover surmounted by a Chiwen (螭吻), a mythical auspicious creature from Chinese legend.
The Chiwen is known as one of the nine sons of the dragon, a mysterious being with the head of a dragon and the body of a fish. It is usually depicted with a large, upturned tail and is famed for its ability to gaze far into the distance as well as its fondness for fire. Because of these traits, it came to be believed that placing a Chiwen figure on rooftops would protect against fire, and so it became a significant decorative element in ancient Chinese palace architecture. The Chiwen symbolized imperial dignity and majesty, while also serving as a guardian to protect households from calamity.
The lid of this burner is coated with the characteristic bluish glaze of Ru Ware, its surface displaying a soft, lustrous sheen. Both the interior and exterior are finely covered with dense brown crackle. The Chiwen’s eyes are vividly accented in black glaze, while its sharp teeth, massive jaws, powerful claws, and the finely carved tail and fins together bring the creature to life in striking detail.
On the body of the burner, three ruyi-shaped openings are pierced, while the tripod feet take the form of auspicious beasts, their faces and claws carefully modeled.
Beneath the cover and at the base of the burner remain five small spur-marks, known as zhiding zhima hen (支钉芝麻痕, “sesame seed marks from support spurs”), a hallmark of Ru Ware’s distinctive firing technique.
